Fact or Fiction on the Burger King Gluten-Free Bun

No – Burger King does NOT offer gluten-free buns. I spoke with Burger King’s customer service (after being on hold for a whopping 12 minutes – no pun intended) and received the answer that gluten-free buns are not an option on the Burger King menu.

Burger King also directed me to their allergen list on the Burger King website. In addition, the customer service rep advised me that each Burger King restaurant is a franchise and independently owned, so the menu items may vary by location and I should contact my local Burger King. Okay then – I love when a company headquarters is unsure what they offer on their own menu.

So, I continued my research and I contacted three Burger King locations in a 50 mile radius of my home.

  • Location #1: The manager on duty did not know if they carried gluten-free buns as he told me the ingredients are not labeled on their bun packaging.
  • Location #2: The manager on duty said they did not carry gluten-free buns. However, they could offer a low-carb option without the bun.
  • Location #3: This is the best one…the manager on duty was not sure if they offered gluten-free buns and asked me to call back in two minutes. When I called back, my call went to voicemail. The manager did eventually return my call and told me that he was trying to get in touch with Burger King’s supplier, however the supplier wasn’t answering. So, the manager on duty told me to call Burger King’s company headquarters number.

You can’t make this stuff up – it’s like Groundhog Day. So, the moral of the story is Burger King headquarters could not provide a direct answer on gluten-free buns and two out of three Burger King franchise owners could not provide me with a concrete answer.

Are Burger King French Fries Gluten-Free?

I think you already know the answer… Burger King’s “gluten-free” menu is extremely limited. Check out the details on their french fries here. If you’re thirsty, you’re in luck as their drink menu is gluten-free (insert sarcasm). Burger King does offer gluten-free sundae options, but after my research, I’d personally never eat a sundae from any Burger King.

What fast food restaurants offer gluten-free options?

At the time of this post, In-N-Out has gluten-free options as well as Wendy’s. I’ll continue to update this post as I research fast food joints across America. Be sure to read this post on why you need to be cautious when eating restaurant french fries.
