Gluten-Free Foundation for Healthy Skin that Glows!

If you're here to find out more about gluten-free foundation, you've come to the right place! However, if you're hoping to learn how to contour your face into oblivion like a Kardashian, you might want to refine your search...

As I've mentioned in other posts, our skin is the biggest organ of our body and actively soaks up what we put on our bodies. For those of us with celiac disease, gluten intolerance, and non-gluten sensitivity, gluten in makeup can wreak havoc on our skin.

BC (before celiac), I was lucky to have clear skin even in my hormonal teens. I might have had a blemish once a month despite raging hormones and teenage angst. Fast forward to being diagnosed with celiac disease in 2005 (way into my adulthood), I've struggled with a variety of skin issues. I always thought it was my immune system being out of whack. I had random rashes on my body, "regular" blemishes and cystic acne. I saw my dermatologist, tried creams, lotions and medication, but my skin didn't improve.

As you know, I had an epiphany that my hair care was glutening my skin. So was my makeup doing the same?

As I began researching gluten-free cosmetics, I realized several things: 1) Deciphering ingredients in make up is 200% harder than food labels. 2) Gluten can be used in cosmetics as a binder or even as a "skin benefit" 3) I had no idea if the makeup I was using contained gluten. Welcome to my journey!

If you're wondering about gluten in cosmetics, be prepared to do some research. Read labels and contact the manufacturer. When in doubt, don't use it -- it's just not worth it! To lighten your load, I've listed several gluten-free foundation brands (in no particular order) as well as gluten-free face powders and gluten-free concealers.

But let's take a moment to focus on what's really important. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL inside and out!

Gluten-Free Concealer

Thicker than foundations, concealer is used to camouflage uneven skin tones, annoying blemishes, age spots, acne scars, and dark circles (whether you inherited them or have them due to pulling an all-nighter). A light hand in applying gluten-free concealers is important to avoid the caked on look. Also keep in mind that concealers can settle into fine lines on "mature skin". Apply your gluten-free foundation first and then touch up with concealer if necessary.
