Are Ruffles gluten-free? Five Ruffles gluten-free options are available, including Ruffles Original Chips. The main ingredient in potato chips is (you guessed it) potatoes and potatoes are naturally gluten-free. So why worry if chips might contain gluten? Read on for which chips are safe to snack on and which to avoid.

Potatoes are just one of the ingredients in a bag of chips. The more a naturally gluten-free food is processed, the greater the risk for gluten as an additive. Additionally, some potato chip brands manufacture their chips on shared equipment that processes foods containing wheat. This causes a risk for cross-contamination.

LOOK FOR THE GLUTEN-FREE LABEL

Ruffles marks their gluten-free snacks with either GF or gluten-free on each package. This helps us easily identify safe snacks (and saves our eyesight).

CAUTION – CHIPS THAT CONTAIN GLUTEN

Stay away from these chips or crisps as they contain gluten: bagel chips, Sun Chips, Pita Chips, and Pringles. Another red flag is a “multi-grain” label as the product may contain gluten. Always read those labels!

GLUTEN-FREE DIPS

Chips and dip go hand in hand (mouth?). If you’re a fan of onion dip, you may have discovered the go-to Lipton Onion Soup Mix contains wheat. Some canned onion dips, including Utz French Onion Dip, also contain wheat. Don’t despair – there are several gluten-free onion dip mixes and pre-made options out there!

ARE POTATOES GLUTEN-FREE?

Craving some tasty mashed spuds? All varieties of potatoes are naturally gluten-free including sweet potatoes. However, it’s important to stay aware of exactly how potatoes are prepared. For example, some diced potatoes, potato cakes, and mashed potatoes use flour as an ingredient. Wheat flour is off-limits for those of us with Celiac Disease, gluten intolerance, and non-Celiac gluten sensitivity.
